On October 2, 2017, Atlanta made history when the City Council unanimously voted to decriminalize possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. Eight years later, we celebrate this milestone not only as a step toward justice and equity but also as powerful evidence of what grassroots organizing and civic participation can achieve. Driven by community voices, neighborhood advocates, and the ballot box, this victory reminds us that the willingness to participate in the electoral process can change the course of history. Together, when we organize and vote, we create lasting change, shaping the future of Atlanta and communities nationwide.
